Paris Metro is a damn sight better than London Underground. Some of the trains even use rubber wheels. The stations are also so close together that one can ponder whether to walk or take the metro for short journeys of one or two stops.
They also have this thing called the RER which is half way between the metro and the national train network in general concept. Travelling on it after Network South East is a real weird experience. You get on the train. Train accelerates linearly to cruising speed. Train cruises. Train decelerates linearly to standstill. Doors open. You disembark. End of story. I used it four times a day for two months. It was only late twice ( ten minutes each time ) and one of those times was due to a bomb alert at Les Halles.
