Sceaux / Bourg la Reigne
Outside the RER station at Bourg la Reigne (the
blue line going south), on a wednesday(at the time (1998)), there is une marchande des crepes
who sells very nice (and cheap) pancakes. Apparently, she is from a crepe
making family in Roscoff, on the north coast of France. As, she was the
youngest in her family, and the rest of her family were capable of making
all the crepes needed by Roscoff by themselves, she moved away, to make
crepes somewhere else. My personal favourites are cheese ( which melts
very nicely ) and chocolate ( which, as it melts, separates out into two
different flavours ). You can get them with bacon, egg and god (and anyone
whose french is better than mine) only knows what else.
When you make a crepe with buckweat flour it is
called a "galette", probably.
I used to work near here, and on wednesdays we had
crepes and cider. (specialities of N.W. France).
Incidentally, a few years before, I actually went
to Roscoff on holiday. It has a Youth Hostel on a Hill which had something
weird about it, like no kitchen or mixed dormitories. Anyway I was there
for a day or two and set off those Chinese bangers on the beach (since
we figured we couldn't get them through customs).
Parc de Sceaux
When I went to the Parc de Sceaux, there were some
army dudes giving each other some Medailles Militaires, for defending the
country against the forces of oppression, or something. They didn't even
look as if they were enjoying it. Anyway. Actually, they could have been
the CRS for all I know and the medals were for beating up English hooligans
(who deserve everything they get, by the way).
